The Swiss Culture Award Premio Masciadri was established in 2016 in memory of the classical philologist, poet and writer Virgilio Masciadri (1963-2014). The prize is awarded annually as part of the Seetal Poetry Summer festival. In 2024, the Premio Masciadri will go to the journalist and author Alexander Grass (Loco TI). As Ticino correspondent for the Swiss Radio SRF, he has worked for years to promote a genuine understanding of the canton of Ticino and continues to provide a well-founded portrayal of our southern canton with his books ‘Durchschlag am Gotthard’ and ‘Grenzland Tessin’. The jury also honours the Germanist, historian and philologist Thomas Heckendorn (Flaach ZH) for his literary work in prose and poetry and in particular for his poetic attitude, which rubs up against our time and its society and encounters it with historical awareness.
The previous winners are the poet Leonardo Tonini (Italy, 2016); the poet, translator and publisher Jonas Ellerström (Sweden, 2017); the composer Stefano Ghisleri (Italy, 2018); the writer Max Dohner (Switzerland, 2019); NZZ feature writer Roman Bucheli (Switzerland, 2020); publisher, artist and poet Mauro Valsangiacomo (Switzerland, 2021); translator Corinne Verdan-Moser (Switzerland, 2022); literary mediator and publisher of Rhaeto-Romanic literature Mevina Puorger (Switzerland, 2023).
